The Bloodletter was the first member of the Black Dagger Brotherhood to ever have been dismissed and his daggers stripped from him. He sired Payne and Vishous and later went on to form the Band of Bastards.

Biography[]

In 1701, the Scribe Virgin came to him because she wanted to physically experience conception and birth. Suspecting who she was and what she wanted, the Bloodletter refused to give her his seed unless he got custody of any male children. Having only begat females, he felt less masculine without any sons. They agreed that he would gain custody of Vishous on his third birthday and have him for three centuries, training him as a warrior. The Scribe Virgin would get him after that period. She almost didn't survive the brutal mating.[1]

The Bloodletter had trained some of the best fighters the species had, training four who went on to become Brothers. Part of his methods included starving and beating the pretrans trainees, including his own son, so they would grow meaner. He had those who lost a practice fight publicly raped by their opponent.[2]

After Vishous' transition, the Bloodletter felt threatened by his growing powers. Immediately after the change was complete, he set up a fight between Vishous and one of his soldiers. Vishous had to fight naked and armed with only a broom. Either Vishous had to resort to using his hand and confirming their superstitions or he would lose and be raped by his opponent, proving to everyone that he was no threat. Despite the disadvantages, Vishous still won. Afterwards, he attacked his father and was pulled off by his soldiers.[3]

As punishment and to diminish the threat that Vishous posed, the Bloodletter had warnings in the Old Language tattooed along the left side of V's face and groin indicating he was cursed. When the Bloodletter tried to have V castrated, his soldiers were only partially successful before V's entire body glowed white and incinerated those physically touching him during the atrocity. The entire camp was too scared to touch him after that, allowing him to drag himself out of the cave and into the woods.[3]

Shortly after his transition, Xcor came upon the Bloodletter and his fighters, who were tracking down some Lessers; Xcor managed to get involved in the fight and survived it. Known as the vampire who could only sire "weakling females" and a single "cursed boy," the Bloodletter saw the opportunity to save face by claiming such a strong fighter as his get, so he lied to everyone, including Xcor, and brought him into his camp.

Payne set her father on fire and killed him for what he did to her twin, Vishous, which she believed killed her brother.[4]

Personality[]

Cunning, he was unpredictable, although it was always well-calculated for effect and he could be counted on to be violent. [2] Not even those with whom he had sex were spared his cruelty, the act described as being nearly indistinguishable from his fighting.[1] He had no compunctions when it came to killing no matter the species, gender, or combatant status; he wouldn't hesitate to tear out the throat of an innocent human bystander.[4]

His brutal tutelage was intended to strip morals and compassion from all those under him, even if they attempted to render him aid.

Physical Description[]

The Bloodletter was rumoured to be the largest vampire male ever born, thickly muscled, and with dark eyes.[2] He had jet-black hair, a full beard[5], and his fangs were always extended.[3]

Relationships[]

Vishous[]

The Bloodletter was no kinder to his own son than he was to the rest of the boys in his camp, if anything, he was more brutal to Vishous to mould him into an unlearned fighter that he could use. As Vishous' power grew, the more the Bloodletter was threatened by him until he had Vishous' body mutilated in punishment.

Xcor[]

The Bloodletter was a cruel father figure who felt like a failure for only siring females, aside from Vishous. Seeing an opportunity, he claimed Xcor as his own son to save face and gain a strong fighter that wasn't stronger than he was, which had proven a problem with Vishous.
