Ehlena is a vampire and a nurse who works with Jane and Manny in the Brotherhood's clinic. She's mated to the half-vampire/half-sympath Rehvenge and they are the main characters of the seventh book of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward, Lover Avenged.
Biography[]
Many years ago, Montrag and his father, Rehm, double-crossed Alyne, Ehlena's father, financially ruining him. As their fortunes declined, her mahmen turned to laudanum to cope. Ehlena had, had a promising engagement to a male of the glymera, but after they chose to become intimate, the male betrayed her by spreading lies that she had seduced him and was nothing more than a harlot. She would never again have a chance at a successful mating. It was one shameful betrayal too many for her mother and she committed suicide.[1]
Her father's schizophrenia meant she had to support them both, including the costs for his care. Essentially, she put her life on hold in order to work and take care of her father. She went into nursing because she wants to be a doctor and believes that everyone deserves to be saved.
When Rehvenge came into the clinic for more dopamine, Ehlena recognized his severely infected injection sites as a slow suicide attempt. She was fired from Havers' clinic for stealing penicillin for him when he wouldn't talk to Havers about it.
After badgering Rehv into taking care of himself, they slowly opened up to each other and found a kindred soul in the other. As they fell in love, the secret of his sympath side came out and she felt betrayed by the lies. But worse than that, she thought of every drug addict she'd ever treated when she learned of his drug dealing and couldn't forgive the fact that he was hurting others.
When he faked his death, she could still sense him since they'd fed from each other. She delved into his records and those of his family and she saw the pattern of abuse. She took her evidence and suspicions to Xhex, who told her Rehv's history and how he'd sacrificed himself to save his family and the Brotherhood from the repercussions. Together, they went to Wrath and told him the whole story. He sent the Brotherhood with them into the sympath colony to retrieve him.
Now she works at Doc Jane's clinic at the Brotherhood compound where she lives with Rehvenge.
Personality[]
Intelligent and quick-witted, Ehlena believes more in doing what's right than in following the letter of the law. Her moral compass rarely wavers, even if that means crossing certain ethical lines.
Physical Description[]
Ehlena has strawberry blonde hair, toffee-coloured eyes, naturally pink lips, and long, lean limbs.

- A skilled nurse. When she appears in the books, she often doesn't speak because in an emergency situation she gets to work without a lot of chit chat.

Ehlena loves her father and never once resented him for having to put her life on hold to take care of him. It hurts her that he can be there, but not entirely there, sometimes not recognizing her. Although his mental state has improved now that their lifestyle is closer to what he used to provide for his family.
Rehvenge[]
When he was her patient, Ehlena had been both attracted to and scared of Rehvenge. Then when he threw his drug dealing and lies in her face, she was hurt and angry. After his faked death, she pieced together enough to see what was going on and was determined to rescue him. Their relationship after the rescue has not been shown on page since then.
Xhex[]
At first, Ehlena and Xhex did not get along at all. Xhex was angry at Ehlena for pre-judging Rehvenge, even though that was what he wanted and had set her up for. Ehlena didn't appreciate Xhex interfering in what was between her and Rehvenge. They calmed down when they came together to plan Rehvenge's rescue and came to respect each other.
