Immortal is the sixth and final novel of the Fallen Angels series set in the same universe as The Black Dagger Brotherhood series. It follows Possession.

Along with Black Dagger Legacy, Black Dagger Brotherhood: Prison Camp, and Lair of the Wolven, Fallen Angels is a spin-off from the main series Black Dagger Brotherhood. Unlike the other spin-offs, this is a stand-alone series and Black Dagger Brotherhood is not required in order to fully understand the lore, characters, and story-lines of Fallen Angels. Each book was published alternately with the main series, but chronologically the series more or less takes place at the same time as Lover Unleashed. Immortal was released after The King and before The Shadows.

Chapter 1[]

Devina's indulging in retail therapy because she thinks she's in love with Jim, but after having sex, he'd gone home to Sissy.

Chapter 2[]

Sissy's also upset about Jim having had sex with another woman, plus her stint in hell, of course, but then she feels bad about feeling possessive over him when she doesn't think she has a right to be. After bickering with Adrian, she borrows one of their Harleys to go for a ride to clear her head. Jim's having his own existential crisis.

Chapter 3[]

Devina confronts Sissy and tells her that she's the other woman; then she goes Darth Vader and encourages Sissy to give into her anger, but they're interrupted by Dog.

Jim talks to Adrian about Devina's suggestion to quit the war and his eminent promotion to take Nigel's place, but Jim proposes the idea of going to Purgatory and freeing Nigel.

Chapter 4[]

Sissy confronts Jim about having sex with Devina and in her anger, he learns that she'd seen what Devina had done to him in her Well of Souls. He tells her that she's the reason why they lost the last round, because he was distracted by Sissy. She demands to be allowed to help, but he refuses until Adrian, hearing them arguing, tells him that she can read the book that might help them.

Colin burns Nigel's body on a pyre and plans to "settle this score with Jim Heron" with the same dagger Nigel had used to take his own life.

Chapter 5[]

Adrian and Jim argue because Jim doesn't want Sissy involved and Adrian doesn't see any other option if they want to win. Adrian fills Sissy in on Jim's plan of going to Purgatory to rescue Nigel and to help, she pores over the book, but doesn't yet find anything useful.

Jim tells Sissy that Devina had taken her form the other night and her seduction had almost worked, which gives her ideas. Unwilling to let either of them take that step, Jim leaves. After the crucible of hell, Sissy's no longer a girl and Jim's having a difficult time reconciling her chronological age with who she is now.

Chapter 6[]

After poring over the book, Sissy comes up empty-handed. Just as she and the two angels are wondering what to do, Colin attacks Jim. The angels fight and Sissy tries to help by hitting Colin with a heavy, brass candelabra, but she's thrown backwards in a burst of light. Jim takes advantage of Colin's disoriented state from the head blow and disarms the archangel. It comes out that Colin assumes that since he found Jim with the hand on the dagger that Nigel used to kill himself with that Jim murdered him. Promising to get Nigel back, Jim slits his own throat.

Chapter 7[]

Devina senses Jim's death and rushes to Casa d'Angel only to slam into Jim's new and improved protection spell. Peering through the window, she sees Jim's body and the aftermath of the fight with Colin.

Sissy snaps and attacks Colin, but he easily subdues her until she wears herself out fighting against him. Crying, he tells her that he's grieving a loss, too. Adrian tells Colin that Jim killed himself to go find Nigel and Colin points out all the issues with that plan that Adrian already told Jim.

In her true form, Devina enters, wanting to see Jim's body. When Adrian refuses, she summons her shadow minions to attack. The angels push Sissy into a corner where they can better protect her as they prepare to fight.

Chapter 8[]

Jim comes to repeating the words, "I love you," which was what he'd attempted to tell Sissy as he died. He finds himself on an endless, grey plain scattered with people who are slowly disintegrating and realizes how difficult it will be to find Nigel.

Chapter 9[]

Sissy takes Adrian's back-up dagger and he tries to stop her since she doesn't know how to fight, but he's having problems of his own due to the injuries he took from Matthias. Sissy slashes at anything that gets too close as Adrian yells at Devina to try and get through to her to get her to help get Jim back in the hopes that it'll at least get her to stop attacking.

Facing Purgatory, Nigel's questioning whether or not he had made the correct decision. When he'd taken his own life, he'd been convinced that had been the best way to get Jim's head back in the game and thus save the world. Now he's steeped in grief and bitterness and realizing that the boulders surrounding him are actually other souls.

Chapter 10[]

Devina originally thought that Colin killed Jim over Nigel, but the way Colin had seemed stunned sticks out to her. Realizing Jim killed himself, she dismisses her minions. Colin confirms it and tells her why, but in her delusion, she thinks he did it so they could be together and he wouldn't have to take Nigel's place. Devina asks for the book and Sissy gives it to her despite Adrian's warning not to, saying that there's nothing in there about Purgatory. Devina tells her that she wrote it, not in Latin like Sissy had assumed, but Eddie stole it from her when he'd tried to rescue Adrian from Purgatory and there's nothing about the place because she's never been there.

Colin deduces that she intends to open a portal. Adrian says that there are only two that they're allowed to use and they lead to Heaven and Hell, respectively; to do otherwise would be going against the Creator's rules. The last time someone did that, the Dead Sea was created. Devina says that if they get in trouble she'll claim it was her idea because the Creator won't punish her for acting exactly how He created her since she's intended to be a foil to give goodness meaning.
