“You've got nothing to worry about. The righteous do not always right, but their souls remain pure." -Lassiter
Phury is the twin brother of Zsadist and they are both members of the Black Dagger Brotherhood in the series of the same name by JR Ward. He's the Primale and mated to the Chosen Cormia, together they are the main characters of the sixth book of the series, Lover Enshrined.
Biography[]
Phury is Zsadist's twin brother, younger by three minutes. After his brother was kidnapped as an infant, his mahmen withdrew into herself and his father went searching for Zsadist. Finding only dead ends, his father returned and drowned himself in alcohol. His mother rarely left her room and she never touched him, not even a hug.[1]
Feeling that he only served as a reminder of what was lost, he did his best to go unnoticed. As soon as he transitioned, he left to look for Zsadist; his mother didn't even look at him when he told her, and he left a note for his father who was passed out on the floor. The Wizard made his first appearance when he left.[1]
After searching for 100 years, he found Zsadist and freed him in 1898; during the escape, he was forced to shoot the lower half of his own leg off.
In the early 1930s, he nearly died of a fever and Zsadist went to Wrath for help. Subsequently, the brothers were indoctrinated into the Black Dagger Brotherhood in 1932.[2]
For a while, he was enamoured of his twin brother's shellan, Bella, and punished himself for what he thought was inappropriate feelings. His self-destructive spiral led to his decision to take Vishous' place as the Primale.[3] Due to a vow of celibacy, he was a virgin until just before he mated Cormia.[4] She was also the first female he ever fed.[1]
After getting kicked out of the Black Dagger Brotherhood over his drug addiction, he overdosed on heroin and subsequently got kicked out of the mansion. He sobered up after that and started going to recovery meetings, broke the traditions to allow the Chosen to choose their own lives and paved the way for the Brotherhood to accept worthy males regardless of lineage.
In late September/early October 2008, a little over a month after getting clean, he mated Cormia the same night as the celebration of Nalla's first 24 hours of life. He splits his time between the Brotherhood in Caldwell and the Chosen at the Adirondacks Great Camp.
Personality[]
Compared to his hot-headed Brothers, Phury's more of a peacekeeper.[5] When it comes to fighting, he's noble and honourable to his opponents.[6] He makes sure to ask each person at dinner how they are and inquire about things like injuries or what's been on their mind. If Fritz struggles with a particularly heavy dish, Phury's the first to help.[7]
Physical Description[]
During the rescue of his twin, Zsadist, Phury shot off the lower part of his leg to escape. [8] His brothers sometimes call him "Rapunzel" for his long wavy hair that's a mix of blonde, red, and brown. Like his brother, he has yellow eyes, golden brown skin, and elegant hands with long fingers and broad palms. He has a smooth, low voice[9] and wears a gold Cartier men's Tank.[10]
He envisioned his self-hatred and addiction as a ringwraith from Lord of the Rings that he called the Wizard. The Wizard appeared in a wasteland filled with bones and skulls and spoke with a proper British accent.[11]

They share a love for fashion and treat it as a friendly competition to see who can one-up the other.[10]
The Chosen[]
Phury is proud of the Chosen, loves them, and protects them. He feels like a father when it comes to them and takes his responsibilities towards them very seriously.
Cormia[]
Although they fell in love while their lives were falling apart, they're growing closer as they both figure out how to completely restructure their lives. She very much wants to have young with him.[15]
Zsadist[]
While he's now Phury's best friend[10], Zsadist's relationship with his twin has been fraught with their traumas. When Zsadist couldn't deal, he asked Phury, the only one he trusted, to beat him. When Phury was dealing with his addiction, Zsadist couldn't watch his shellan go through a difficult pregnancy and watch his brother destroy himself with drugs at the same time. Although Z had washed his hands of Phury, he watched over him after every AA meeting that he went to and came to him when Phury thought he was no longer welcome, asking him to come and celebrate the birth of his daughter. Despite the reaction most bonded males have to others around their shellans, Zsadist never treated Phury as a threat when Phury thought he was in love with Bella.
